Children naturally learn more effectively when something is important and interesting to them.

In traditional schools, children are expected to learn what they are told to learn. They may be motivated by the opportunity to earn adult approval, to perform better than their peers, or to get a reward. If they are not motivated, or if they do not perform well, they may be punished or shamed.

At Someday School, children decide what to explore. They are taught to set their own learning goals. They are motivated by the opportunity to do something or learn something they care about, and to share what they’ve learned with others.
