We recently decided to add ages 8 through 13 to our school, knowing that kids of these ages can have the most difficulties in traditional schools. Our students are community members, and are treated as such, with privileges and responsibilities. Older kids at Someday School can blossom when given the freedom to explore their interests and passions. If a student wants to learn about something, we will help them find a way. This can mean anything from helping them find online resources, to looking for a community member to volunteer to teach them a skill.
While this is true of younger children at Someday School as well, it is especially important for older kids. Their brains are growing as well as their bodies, and they will have many new ideas to test out. Older kids can even take on the role of teachers by creating mini-classes or workshops to share with their peers or younger children.
School is mandatory for children over the age of 8, and they must attend fultime. The exception is for homeschooling or unschooling children, who may attend part time or a la carte classes if their parents or guardians are considered their main homeschooling "teachers." We now offer sliding scale tuition. Please contact us to discuss what your tuition would be.
